Sharon & Geoffrey’s Moody Winter Wedding at The Morehead Inn in Charlotte, NC
02.07.26 | Charlotte, NC Wedding
Some weddings just feel like stepping into a storybook, and Sharon and Geoffrey’s winter celebration at The Morehead Inn was exactly that.
Think moody winter romance, glowing candlelight, and bold florals in red wine and blush pink with just enough playful personality to make the whole day feel unmistakably them. When a couple sets a clear vibe but then says, “run with it,” it becomes the most fun kind of floral playground.
Sharon and Geoffrey trusted the process in the best way possible. They shared their vision, bold, romantic, a little whimsical, and then gave us the creative freedom to bring the flowers to life.
And oh my goodness we had fun with this one.
A Cozy Winter Ceremony in Front of the Fireplace
The ceremony took place inside the inn with the fireplace as the backdrop, which already feels incredibly intimate in winter. We leaned all the way into that warmth with a flower blocked mantel installation overflowing with blooms in rich burgundy, red wine tones, blush pink, and white.
The goal was for the flowers to feel lush and a little untamed, like they had naturally gathered around the fireplace.
Texture was everything here. We layered in flowers that were unique and textural, including:
Cymbidium orchids
Oncidium orchids
Anthurium
Double tulips
Gerbera Daisies
These varieties bring such beautiful movement and shape, which helped the arrangement feel full of life instead of overly structured.
The staircase in the room also became a floral moment with an overflowing installation that climbed and cascaded down the banister. It framed the ceremony space perfectly and later turned into one of the most memorable entrances of the night.
A Bouquet Full of Movement and Drama
Sharon’s bouquet was designed to feel textural, romantic, and a little dramatic (in the best way).
We built it with blush pinks, burgundy, and rich reds so it would pop beautifully against the winter setting. The orchids added sculptural shape, sweet peas gave it that floaty softness, and ranunculus filled in with layered petals.
It had bounce and movement instead of being tightly structured, which made it feel effortless and modern.
The bridesmaids carried smaller bouquets with the same overall palette but a softer presence. We included calla lilies for that elegant, sculptural shape while keeping the arrangements a little more minimal so Sharon’s bouquet could have its moment.
A Reception Flip That Felt Like an Intimate Dinner Party
After the ceremony, guests headed to the back patio for cocktail hour while the room transformed for dinner.
When everyone returned, the space had shifted into a candlelit reception designed to feel like a cozy winter dinner party with friends.
Tables were layered with:
Tall tapers
Pillar candles
Votives
Gold bud vases filled with pops of red and blush blooms
Instead of lots of small tables, there were three long rectangular tables that encouraged conversation and gave the room a warm, communal feeling.
The florals weren’t overwhelming, just little bursts of color scattered through the candlelight so everything felt intentional but relaxed.
A Grand Staircase Entrance (Through Flowers)
One of the most fun moments of the night was Sharon and Geoffrey’s grand entrance. They walked down the staircase framed by the floral installation, which made the whole moment feel almost cinematic. Guests were already gathered below, the candles were glowing, and the flowers framed the entire scene. It’s one of those moments where you realize florals aren’t just decoration, they actually shape the experience of the day.
A Piano Turned Dessert Table
The dessert display might have been one of my favorite design moments. Instead of a traditional table, desserts were displayed on the grand piano, topped with a bold, structural arrangement in a gold compote. It brought height, texture, and a little drama to the corner of the room while still feeling cohesive with the rest of the design.
It was moody, romantic, and just a tiny bit playful, which honestly describes the entire wedding perfectly.
A Touch of Silliness (Because Weddings Should Be Fun)
For all the romance and candlelight, Sharon and Geoffrey also made sure their personalities showed up throughout the day.
One of the most memorable details was their welcome sign featuring a silly illustrated, which instantly set the tone that this wedding was going to be heartfelt but also joyful.
That balance, romance with a little humor, carried through the whole celebration.
Trusting the Creative Process
The best part of this wedding from a floral design perspective was the trust.
Sharon and Geoffrey gave direction on the mood, colors, and feeling, but then they let the flowers evolve naturally. That creative freedom allowed us to build installations with movement, experiment with bold varieties, and create designs that felt completely unique to their day.
It’s my favorite way to collaborate with couples.
You bring the vibe.
We build the flowers together.
